Andersonville was an infamous prison camp operated by the Confederates, near present-day Americus, Georgia.  Captured Union Soldiers were crammed into the open air barricade with no shelter and little food.  Buffeted by the elements and plagued by disease, many succumbed to death.  Today, in a corner of the compound, the Park Service has recreated prison tents and shelters.
