A
colorful, large bird, the cattle egret grows up to 17 inches in
height with a wingspan of up to 37 inches. Some adult egrets,
such as the one pictured above, are known as "adult alternate
egrets" because they sport red or orange bills, red legs and have
buffy, orange-like feathering around the head, neck and back.
These birds only briefly attain their full plumage. This
picture was taken in a swampy area in Douglas, Georgia.
